EXAMPLE:
You have an email address of testingmail@companyname.com
then your outbound server will be mail.companyname.com
(it MUST match your email address).

Outlook 2000 & Outlook Express (v6)
Click "Tools".
Click "Accounts".
Click the "mail" tab.
Highlight the mailbox you wish to edit.
Click "Properties".
Press the "servers" tab.
Check the last box on the page which says "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
Click the "Advanced tab".
Change the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" port from 25 to 587.
Click "Apply".
Click "OK".
Click "Close".
Make sure to close Outlook(or Outlook Express) so it will save the settings you've just changed.

Outlook 2002/2003/XP
Click "Tools".
Click "Email Accounts".
Click the bullet for "view or change existing".
Click "Next".
Click the mailbox you wish to edit.
Click "Change" (button).
Click the "More Settings" button.
Click the "Outgoing Server" tab.
Check the box which says "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
Click the "Advanced" tab.
Find the Entry where it says this:
"Outgoing Server (SMTP)"
The port number listed there should be 587 (it likely has a 25).
Click "OK".
Click "Next".
Click "Finish".
Make sure to close Outlook so it will save the settings you've just changed.

Windows Mail (Vista)
Click "Tools".
Click "Accounts".
Click your mailbox to highlight it (in the section called "Mail").
Press the button called "Properties".
Click the "Servers" tab.
Check the last box on the page which says "My outbound server (SMTP) requires authentication".
Click the "Advanced" tab.
Change the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" port from 25 to 587.
Click "Apply".
Click "OK".
Click "Close".
Make sure to close Windows Mail so it will save the settings you've just changed.

Click "Tools".
Click "Account Settings".
Click the "E-mail" tab.
Click your mouse on the mailbox you wish to edit (often there is just one).
Click Change.
Click the "More Settings" button.
Click the "Outgoing Server" tab.
Check the box which says "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
Click The "Advanced" tab.
Find the Entry where it says this:
"Outgoing Server (SMTP)"
The port number listed there should be 587 (it likely has a 25).
Click "OK".
Click "Next".
Click "Finish".
Make sure to close Outlook so it will save the settings you've just changed.

Thunderbird
Click "Tools".
Click "Account Settings".
Scroll down the left column to "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" and click it.
Click on the Outbound server setup on the right side (there may only be 1 choice).
Click the "Edit" button.
Change the Port listed to 587 (from 25).
In the "Security and Authentication" section:
Check the checkmark box which says "Use name and password".
Click "OK".
Click "OK".
Make sure to close Thunderbird so it will save the settings you've just changed.

Pegasus Mail V4.41 - smtp change
Click "Tools".
Click "Internet Options".
Click on "Sending SMTP" Tab.
Click on "Edit" Button.
Change the following line "Change Server Tcp/IP port to" from 25 to 587.
Then click the "Security" Tab.
Check the last box on the page -> "Login to the SMTP server using POP3 username/pass"
NOTE: Below that line there is option to pick the pop3 definition, click "Select".
Hopefully will be only one profile, but if there is more than one pick the one that matches
your email address. Click "Select"
Then click "Ok".
Then click "Ok" again.
Your done.

Apple Mail
On the Mail menu, click Preferences.
Select the Accounts tab.
Select your email account.
Click the "Server Settings" button under Outgoing Mail Server section.
Enter in the "Outgoing Mail Server field: mail.XXXXX.com (use the servername for your email).
Change the "Server port:" from 25 to 587.
Make sure "Authentication:" is set to Password (fill in username and password).
Click OK and close the Preferences window.
Close the program to save your settings.

Entourage
On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
Select your email account.
Click Edit.
On the Account Settings tab, in the Sending Mail section:
Enter in the "SMTP server" field: mail.XXXXX.com (use the servername for your email).
Click "Click here for advanced sending options".
Check "Override default SMTP port:" and change to 587.
Check "SMTP server requires authentication"
"Use same settings as my incoming mail server" should be selected.
Click on the small box on upper left corner to close window.
Click OK to save changes and close the Accounts window.
Close Entourage to save your settings.

Scroll down in the navigation pane and click Ports.
View the Outgoing mail (SMTP) Port and change to 587.
Enter in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" field: mail.XXXXX.com (use the servername for your email).
Close Eudora to save your settings.
